I say we put together a list of threads on various rumors or emails we've seen and brainstorm some answers to them.  Thus, if a new person comes in they can see the truth pretty easily.  We should also link our answers to Snopes.com and other fact checking sites.  Anyone interested?

There's a pretty good response to the Muslim rumor on both snopes (just search Obama) and on barackobama.com under Learn>>Know the Facts.  The Patriotism rumor and the rumor about his church being racist are answered in both places also.
I've been dealing with these rumors a lot lately.  It scares me to see how deeply entrenched peoples fear of "other" really is.  Bush has done a fantastic job making America fear Muslims.  I've heard--from more than one person--that all Muslims want to kill us (Americans).  Scary stuff.

Can we post links to these sites somewhere on the main page of the forum?  (not sure how this forum stuff works exactly).

On a side note--about the "false patriotism" that Sen. Obama was commenting on--has anyone heard comedian David Cross's bit about "false patriotism"?  Hilarious!

re: linking from the main page -- there's not an easy way to do that unfortunately, but the way I'm envisioning this forum working as a way for members to have answers to opposition arguments, so putting them here works ok for me.  I'd like a thread on each of those, but also when the inevitable new piece of garbage starts going around, we can brainstorm responses.  What I'm afraid of is a member canvassing locally gets hit with "Obama's won't salute the flag" or something and doesn't know what to say.

We also need to think about this differently than snopes does.  I'm interested in sending an honest response, but also in framing it in a way that remembers OUR core values.  In other words, winning the argument doesn't necessarily convince someone to vote for Obama.  And indeed, many people who spill this swill have no intentions of ever voting for him.  But for people who aren't sure who heard a rumor, we can win them over by being positive and answering the underlying arguments of the rumors.

I absolutely agree we need to respond in a positive way that doesn't demean anyone.  Coming out on the attack accomplishes little.  Snopes has their facts right, however.  I was suggesting (although it didn't come across that way) that Snopes was a good link to get a summary of the relevant facts surrounding the claim/counterclaim and then each person could find a way that best expresses that--taking into account the person they are speaking to as well.

Maybe we could compose a fact sheet regarding the current rumors that briefly summarizes the main points that people could take with them while they are canvassing.  It could also address any allegations made by the other Democratic candidates.  Maybe the campaign office already has something like that, I don't know.

http://factcheck.barackobama.com/

It's a list of facts about some of the rumors, along with quotes from media outlets.  I think it has most of the ones I've heard.

Here is an interesting NPR article that looked into the "present" votes and the slumlord accusations that were brought up at the debate:

Highly doubt it. I dont think well see KH3 until TGS 09, they still have to get BBS, Coded, and 358/2 Days out. Theres also that RECoM rumor, and announcing KH3 now would be like a KH overload.

I'll find out tonight from Spencer if I can be the mediator of that and just have people PM me if they're not sure and then I'd relay it them for approval haha.  Just don't discuss anything of course that you were told not to.

To add some really cool gossip, just heard from BFT management that the guys are in the studio again this week recording more songs for the new album... All 4 happen to be BRAND NEW songs like fresh, not recorded before, and I don't think played before either.

ALSO  I was told that if you want to post a rumor here and are not sure whether you are at liberty to discuss that rumor, then all you have to do is send me a private message, I'll relay it to BFT management, and have an answer for you ASAP.  I'm on here daily so it should be a quick process and this kind of thread is really what I love seeing to get the buzz going for future BFT endeavors and events.

Is the Showcase Live even a rumor? Considering it's been posted on their site and on facebook, I think it's safe to say that it's legit.

AMAZING semi-rumor here... semi because it's not really a rumor, but more so just an incomplete announcement

There is going to be what BFT management has told me is a "huge announcement" made soon before the holidays about a about a special guest that BFT is recording with and rehearsing with for a sick Spring tour
